About Team Shirts:
Team shirts are an important way to identify you with your "team". Here are a few tips:
- Team shirts are to be long sleeved. With a collar if they are to be worn during the rodeo in events other than camp events.
- Shirts can have any markings you like: Team name, a sponsor name, nick name, city, and graphics – use your imagination! Just keep in mind it's a family show.
- Can be the same both days or can have two different ones for Saturday and Sunday
- It can be as simple as, for example, purchasing a long sleeved shirt from a department store and using iron-ons all the way to purchasing a western shirt and having it embroidered!!
- If you want to go all out, be sure to check out our western store; Prairie Saddlery in Strathmore.
- Extra points will be awarded this year for purple shirts worn Saturday to honour the Trevor Project – "It Gets Better" focusing on crisis and suicide prevention in LGBTQ youth.
Dress Code during Grand Entry
Grand Entry is your time to shine! You will be announced and paraded though the arena for all to see! As part of the rodeo tradition, you will wear your team shirt and are expected to also have long pants, a western hat, and boots. Check out the 2011 IGRA Rule Book for exact rules.

SCREAM CHALLENGE EXPERIENCE
OVERVIEW
The Scream Challenge is an opportunity for anyone attending the CRIR Rodeo to participate in an interactive game experience that doesn't involve being chased by a bull (See Team Challenge Events for those interested in this activity!). The Scream Challenge involves the talents of Thought, Speed, Skill, Daring & Teamwork to achieve goals that culminate in prize awards and celebrated status. Anyone can create a team (between 4 – 6 people) to enter the competition, which will run Saturday & Sunday of the Rodeo this year. Both days will offer a different "heat" of the competition and you can participate in just one day or both days to maximize your scoring potential. Prizes will be awarded for each day's best performance as well as best overall performance for the entire rodeo weekend. The more you participate, the more you can win!
WARNING:
The Scream Challenge involves camp activities, problem solving skills, vocal talents (and we don't mean singing), some physical activities and your ability to move around the Rodeo Grounds at an accelerated pace. Those not up to these challenges should remain in the Beer Garden until further notice.
WHAT'S INVOLVED?
The Scream Challenge is a team challenge game based on a list of activities and experiences that must be completed within a set timeframe. Some activities will involve your entire group, while others will require your team to split-up to get them done faster. Some events are timed and others can be done at your leisure. Many component of the challenge involves a "check point" where your participation will be recognized and recorded. It will take approximately 3 hours to complete all of the activities on the list, but you do not need to do them one right after the other. You will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the rodeo while you're playing the game if you like. You can start the game at any point in the day after 12pm as long as you finish it before 8pm that same day (6pm on Sunday). Each team will face the same challenges on the same day, but each day will offer different challenges to deal with. Your odds of winning are based on how quickly you can complete each task, what's "special" about your group and how many teams you are competing against. Oh yeah, we'll be taking pictures of you at every turn!
NO REALLY, WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Fine, we'll give you some of the details! The Scream Challenge will involve playing Carnival Games, finding and collecting specific items, experiencing a Midway Attraction, analyzing a Rodeo Event, Reviewing one of our Stage Entertainers, some Crafting Activities and special Scream Challenge Participation Events (just for you) on the Midway. You'll hardly mess your hair doing this!
WHO CAN ENTER?
The Scream Challenge is open to any group of 4 – 6 people. You don't have to know each other to play together; you just have to be able to work together. There is no age restriction, so anyone can be on a team and enter the challenge. This is an excellent opportunity for businesses or clubs who want to have some fun together and perhaps gain some notoriety and bragging rights. Themed dress will only bring more attention to your group, so keep that in mind as you plan your entry strategy. We encourage participants to gather a group of friends and make a party out of this experience.
HOW DO WE ENTER?
You can download and fill out an advanced entry form from ARGRA's website at www.ARGRA.org under CRIR Rodeo/Scream Challenge. Or you can fill in an entry form any morning of the Rodeo at the Visitor Information Booth at the entrance to the midway area. Have your group choose a Team Leader as the main contact person. Please remember, if you want to play the game on that same day, we will need to receive your entry form before 11am of that day at the Visitor Information Booth. You could pick up a form and fill it out while you're having breakfast in the morning if you like. Please note: There may be a maximum number of teams that can be accommodated on a given day, so please get your applications in early to avoid disappointment.
I'M SO LAST MINUTE! CAN WE STILL ENTER?
Yes. As mentioned above, as long as you have your entry form to the Visitor Information Booth at the entrance to the midway area before 11am, you can still play that day. This is contingent on there being any team spots still available for that day. If you don't get in on the first day you can always register for the following day.
ONE OF OUR TEAM MEMBERS DROPPED OUT! WHAT DO WE DO?
If you have already registered but one (or more) of your team members has dropped out, you can either replace them with a stand-in person, or you can participate with less team members in your group. Just ensure you have communicated any changes in your group at the Visitor Information Booth prior to starting the game that day. If one of your team members drops out during the day while playing, then they will still be counted as a part of your team.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Nothing. It may cost you some pride or humility depending on your performance that day, but there is no financial burden to bear if you want to participate. Each team that enters will have the freedom to create outfits that will make them stand out and there may be some personal costs to do that, but this is not a requirement to participate.
WHAT CAN WE WIN?
Good question! The fun of the game and some of the humorous (though bizarre) competitions are only a part of the rewards. Just for participating on either day, you will receive a minimum of 1 prize item per team member that is yours to keep. These items will be unique for each day of the Scream Challenge.
The winning team of the Daily Scream Challenge will receive a divisible prize package worth $20.00 per team member! This may include Beverage Passes and quality Swag Merchandise from our amazing Sponsors.
The winning team participating in Both Days of the Scream Challenge will receive a divisible prize package worth $30.00 per team member on the second day! This may include Beverage Passes and quality Swag Merchandise from our amazing Sponsors. PLUS each member of your team will also receive a Free Rodeo Party Package for next years CRIR 2012. This is a prize package worth $100.00 per person on your team! We will also provide additional prizes for Best Overall Costumes, Make-Up, Volume Levels and Campiness at the final day awards ceremony. Plus, what Gay competition wouldn't be complete without crowning the Scream Queen of the Year! Do you think deserve that? Then prove it! Daily Prize Winners will be announced on the Score Boards located beside the Daily Schedule of Events (beside the Visitor Information Booth) each day by 9pm. The final days Prize Winners, along with the Best Overall winners will be recognized at the Rodeo Awards Ceremony in the Big Rock Dance Hall starting at 7pm on Sunday, July 3rd.
HOW DO WE PREPARE?
It's easy! Here it is in point form:
- Bring 4 – 6 friends together.
- Decide on a team name.
- Pick a Team Leader.
- Think about what might make your team stand-out from others.
- Find a sponsor (business or group) if you have something special planned.
- Decide if you want unique costumes and make them.
- Register your team in advance (if you can).
- Or register the day of competition before 11am.
- Once at the Rodeo confirm your registration at the Visitor Information Booth
- Or drop off your registration.
- Show up with your complete team at the Visitor Information Booth anytime after 12pm on your game day(s).
- Pick up your Scream Challenge Game Package and prepare to have some serious fun!
I HAVE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS!
Glad to hear it! You can contact our Retail Coordinator at to get the answers to those questions. Please note that the Retail Coordinator will not be aware of the activities involved for any of the events, so they will not be able to provide you with any helpful answers to gain an edge. Right Retail Coordinator?
However, we will give you one freebee tip: We didn't call it Scream Challenge so nobody would hear you or notice you while you're participating. The answer to this riddle is in the name of the game itself. You get this one tip only!
I WANT TO BE INVOLVED!
If you are interested in playing a part in the Scream Challenge, but don't want to mess your hair, you might be interested in playing a role as a Judge, Coordinator, Photographer or "Check Point Validator". These are all fun roles that allow you to be a part of the action while you hang out on the midway and see the sights. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Jason Baker at .
